Independent mental health advocacy (IMHA) is available for ‘qualifying patients’ under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983. This includes people who are detained for treatment or subject to a Community Treatment Order. The role of the IMHA is provide support for adults with issues relating to their mental health care and treatment and make sure they understand their rights under the MHA.
